Desk Reports :
Gazipur Metropolitan Police (GMP) Commissioner Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan has been withdrawn for blocking the roads for the general public. This information was given in an order signed by Additional DIG Sharif Uddin, in charge of Personnel Management-1 Branch of the Police Headquarters, on Monday night.
Multiple sources responsible at the Police Headquarters confirmed the matter to Ajker Patrika on Monday night.
He has been ordered to hand over the responsibility by September 2 and join the headquarters.
A recent media report published alleging that Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan blocked the roads while going to and from work sparked widespread criticism. In view of this, he was also given a show-cause notice, said Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury.
Multiple sources from the Home Ministry and the Police said that the recent situation in the Gazipur Metropolitan Area was discussed in a meeting of the Home Ministry’s core committee last Sunday. The decision to withdraw the commissioner was taken based on an intelligence report presented at the meeting.
Dr. Nazmul Karim Khan is a 15th batch police officer. He has also served as the president of the Bangladesh Police Service Association. During the previous Awami League government, he was sent on compulsory retirement without being promoted. However, after the fall of the government, he re-applied and returned to the service and was promoted to the post of DIG. Later, he was appointed as the Commissioner of Gazipur Metropolitan Police.
